FUTURE DOC: NIDDENS SERTS BY DR. TIM PENCE
Due to my favorite activities lolly gagging and procrastinating, I have brought upon myself a known stressor. ..A deadline to meet and little time to finish it. Secretly, I set up these situations so that I’m stressed enough to get motivated finally and then I have all the reasons why everyone else around me might also suffer with me. I like to share the load so to speak.
The stress that we bring upon ourselves and to others for not being adequately responsible are plentiful and there are many unreasonable “reasons” why we do this. My beloved high school English “Anguish” teacher once (or many times I’ve been told) gave us a nugget of wisdom: #1 If you have a problem and CAN do something about, then do it NOW. #2 If you have a problem that you CANNOT do anything about, then forget about NOW.
However, the first step is to observe or become aware that there is a problem. So what happens when one has a niddens serts? HIDDEN STRESS…..”very clever” she said…A hidden problem. What about those stressors we don’t know about and those in which we don’t know we don’t know about?
Being the future doc I’ll relate this in terms of health. A certain amount of stress is actually necessary for livingness to occur. When stressors begin to outweigh the impulse or zest for life, the processes of dis….ease, disease, pathology and eventually death occurs. Any treatment or intervention in these processes would be therapeutic if it reduces stressors and/or increases the body’s defense or resiliency against the stressors. The value of the treatment should also be weighed against any new stressor that may be introduced by the treatment itself. For example, the potential side effects of medications.
In the Future Doc practice we routinely look for niddens serts (hidden stressors). The most common of these are discussed in previous Future Doc articles and can be found in the LBSPY.com archives and here at GreenbrierChiro.com
“The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and in the cause and prevention of disease. ~ ” – Thomas A. Edison.
